“When a gang of masked, ax-wielding murderers descend upon the Davison family reunion, the hapless victims seem trapped… until an unlikely guest of the family proves to be the most talented killer of all.”
So if you read the synopsis in quotes at the top, you should know a little about how this film is going to go. It’s your typical horror film at points but also has it’s unique sides. You have your dumb people, or atleast that’s what I call them, who run out or trip like in pretty much all horror films, and die off fast. One cool thing about this film however is that some of the people who seem to do “stupid” actions end up doing them on purpose for specific reasons. I won’t spoil for you those reasons behind it, but some things start to make sense later on and make the film even more enjoyable the watch the second or third time around.
On the pros of the film, it has a lot of slashing and blood (which we are all looking for in a Halloween Slasher right?). On top of that the story in this actually gets better and better as it progresses unlike a lot of horror films i’ve seen in the past that start to make less sense as the movie goes on. Also the acting is pretty good for the most part, many roles feeling believable. On the negative side, maybe some of the scenes with the killers could have been redone to feel more believable, like why would you wait to kill someone when you could just kill them there and be done right? And also some of the reasoning behind the plot of why everyone’s getting killed could also be worked on as well. But those are small and don’t really take away from the movie too much at all.
‘You’re Next’, is a pretty good horror film that is actually engaging from start to finish. I’d have to give it a 4 out of 5, greatly enjoyed!
